Artist Biography:David Womersley was born in London, England in 1959, and as a youth he attended Barking College of Technology and Manchester Polytechnic studying illustration.
He spent the 1980s in London and New York as an illustrator for numerous books, magazines, newspapers, and advertising campaigns, and his work even crossed over into the field of architecture.
In the early 1990s his art career took another turn as he entered the Animation Industry as a Background Painter for Universal’s, An American Tail: Fievel Goes West. In 1996, he joined Walt Disney Animation Studios to supervise the creation of the first CGI Layout Department for the film Dinosaur. Since then he has worked as a Designer and Visual Development Artist on various short-subject and features length films for Disney including Chicken Little (as Production Designer), Bolt, Tangled, Wreck-It Ralph, and the Academy Award® winning short, Paperman.
Most recently, he served as the Production Designer for Disney’s Frozen, which earned him, along with colleagues Mike Giaimo and Lisa Keene, the 2013 Annie Award for Production Design in an Animated Feature.
David lives in Los Angeles, California, a magical place covered in Palm Trees, where his family back in the U.K. imagines that he is “always on vacation”.
